   Il y a une différence à faire entre "ranger" et "arranger". On "range" pour mettre de l'ordre, et on "arrange", pour donner de l'agrément. Ne dites pas, cette femme a ses cheveux et son bonnet bien "rangés", mais bien "arrangés": ses robes sont bien "rangées", c'est-à-dire, "serrées" dans une armoire. On "arrange" un appartement, pour s'y loger commodément; on le "range" pour qu'il n'y ait point de confusion dans les meubles. On "arrange" une bibliothèque, pour la mettre en état de recevoir les livres qu'on doit y placer; et on y "range" les livres, dans l'ordre qu'ils doivent avoir, pour qu'on les trouve facilement. Il ne faut pas s'étonner qu'on ait confondu le mot "ranger", qui signifie "ordre", avec le mot "arranger", qui porte l'idée d'agrément et de commodité; il n'y a point d'agrément ni de commodité, sans "ordre".
